Our SERVICES

Inn Out of the Cold St. Thomas-Elgin operates 2 programs to assist local residents who find themselves in difficult financial and/or shelter related circumstances. Our Community Meal Program operates from November through April, serving between 40 and 70 individuals, couples and families per night who need a hot meal. This is a preventative program that often assists people with maintaining housing as the free meal supplements their food budget, allowing the saved money to be spent towards rent and utilities. Guests who have no permanent address also access the community meal. Access to personal care items and clothing is available to our guests. This program is operated largely by volunteers who prepare, cook and serve over 9000 meals per season!

Our Shelter Program (operating 8pm-8am daily) provides a hot dinner and breakfast, warm bed, showers, laundry services, access to clothing and personal care items and staff support nightly to those who have no safe place to sleep. We serve an average of 18 guests per night, up to a capacity of 30. Support for the shelter is comprised largely of community donations of money and needed items for operations as well as hospitality volunteers who assist our staff with meeting guest needs each morning and evening. Shelter Staff and a Systems Navigator work with guests to provide information and access to community resources and to reduce barriers to obtaining permanent housing. Community service providers work closely with the Inn to assist our guests with addressing challenges. We can’t say thank you enough for your support and encouragement as we all work towards creating a better future for those in our community!!

Due to Central United Church being closed during the day , donations are gratefully accepted from 5 p.m to 10 pm each night, by bringing items to Moore St. parking lot door at the top of outside steps, then following stairs down to a wagon at bottom. We are monitoring the donations regularly and disinfecting the handrail and door handle!

Please do not come if you are unwell. We so appreciate your continued support!

For financial donations please call 519-933-9895 to make arrangements or donate online at www.innoutofthecoldelgin.com.
